Multnomah County, OR. — The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, has re-arrested 26-year-old Ty Sage, a Portland man indicted for murder, after a mistaken release earlier this week.
Sage was taken into custody without incident at approximately 1 p.m. Thursday at a gas station off Highway 101 in Florence, Oregon. He will be booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on a no-bail hold.
“Ty Sage should never have been able to post bail,” said Sheriff Nicole Morrisey O’Donnell. “To the family of Lowgunn Ivey, the young man killed, I want to acknowledge the fear and trauma that this mistaken release has caused. Lowgunn’s family deserved better.”
Sage was indicted on May 13, 2025, for second-degree murder and first-degree robbery. He appeared for a bail hearing on September 17, but according to MCSO, a misinterpretation of the court’s order allowed him to post bail and walk free from the Multnomah County Detention Center on September 22.
The Sheriff’s Office learned of the release on September 23 and immediately launched an inquiry. A preliminary review revealed MCSO staff had acted in “good faith” and even sought clarification with the court, but errors persisted. “Although MCSO employees acted in good faith and sought clarification with the court, Sage was still allowed to post bail — that should not have happened,” the release stated.
Sheriff Morrisey O’Donnell said the agency is committed to strengthening procedures to prevent future mistakes. “I am committed to making sure this does not happen again, that we learn from our mistakes, and that Lowgunn’s family can have justice,” she said.
She also expressed gratitude to deputies, investigators, and partner agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service and Gresham Police Department, who worked “non-stop” to bring Sage back into custody.
The Sheriff personally informed Ivey’s family of Sage’s re-arrest.
