Portland, OR — Multnomah County Circuit Judge Christopher Ramras sentenced 44-year-old Rafael Gonzalez Rodriguez to 525 months in prison—equivalent to 43 years and 9 months—after his conviction on 58 counts of sexual abuse involving two young girls.
In April 2025, a Multnomah County jury found Gonzalez Rodriguez guilty of multiple charges, including six counts of Rape in the First Degree, 21 counts of Sex Abuse in the First Degree, and numerous counts of sodomy and other sexual abuse crimes. The abuse began when the victims were just 5 and 6 years old and continued for years before being disclosed in September 2023.
The victims first confided in close friends and neighbors, prompting a child abuse hotline call and immediate involvement from the Department of Human Services and law enforcement. At CARES Northwest, the girls detailed years of abuse at the hands of Gonzalez Rodriguez, who had been their mother’s former boyfriend.
Deputy District Attorney Rachna Hajari prosecuted the case, commending the courage of the victims. “What happened to these victims at the hands of the defendant was unimaginable. Though the trauma… will be a part of their lives forever, I hope these convictions and the jury believing the victims will bring them some comfort on their journey of healing and recovery,” Hajari said after the April verdict.
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office recognized the Gresham Police Department for their investigative work and Victim Advocate Alie Aguilera for providing support to the victims and their family.
Gonzalez Rodriguez had faced a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years but received a significantly longer term following the prosecution’s request.
