Salem, OR. – Representative Gregory Smith issued the following statement concerning the
passage of HB 3991 A, legislation estimated to impose a $5.8 billion burden on taxpayers and
opposed by 94% of Oregonians who submitted public testimony.
“Oregon House Republican Leader Christine Drazan and I stand in strong opposition to the
excessive tax increases passed today. They were not needed. Oregonians should be able to rely
on regular road maintenance and preservation without unwarranted hits to their finances”, stated
Representative Smith (R-Heppner).
“Representative Smith was with me side-by-side through the entire special session. His
willingness to take a step back while regularly offering wisdom from his years of experience
makes him an invaluable partner in our work to defend the pocketbooks of families across our
state against higher costs”, said House Republican Leader Drazan (R-Canby).
Leader Drazan continued, “This fight isn’t over, and I am grateful to know he will continue to be
there, consistently working together to stand up for Eastern Oregon’s values.”
Representative Gregory Smith is the Republican budget leader who represents the entirety of
Morrow, Gilliam, Sherman, and Wheeler counties, as well as portions of Clackamas, Jefferson,
Marion, and Umatilla and Wasco counties.
