Portland, OR. — A Multnomah County jury has convicted 24-year-old Jobanpreet Singh in the deadly shooting of two brothers, Dilrajpal Singh, 33, and Guriqbal Singh, 27, in Portland’s Multnomah neighborhood on May 3, 2023. The victims, who were not related to the defendant, died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. The Oregon State Medical Examiner ruled their deaths homicides.
Singh was found guilty of one count of Murder in the Second Degree With a Firearm, one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree With a Firearm, four counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon with a Firearm, and three counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday, October 17, 2025.
The shooting occurred in broad daylight at 2:45 p.m. in a parking lot near 9101 SW Barbur Boulevard. Portland police officers from Central Precinct responded to the scene and found both brothers deceased. Singh, then 21, remained at the scene and was taken into custody. He was later booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on two counts of Murder in the First Degree.
Surveillance footage from a nearby business showed Singh sitting at a picnic-style table with two colleagues when Guriqbal Singh arrived and stood near his vehicle talking on the phone. His brother, Dilrajpal, soon joined him. After a brief verbal exchange between the parties, Singh pulled a pistol from his pocket, racked the slide, and fired multiple rounds as both brothers fled. Singh continued shooting as he pursued them, firing at both men after they had collapsed to the ground.
Multnomah County Chief Deputy District Attorney Mariel Mota and Deputy District Attorneys Eric Palmer and Bijal Patel prosecuted the case.
“This was a tragic and unjustifiable double murder of two young men with loving families and bright futures,” said Mota. “We thank Portland Police, the MCDA investigator and victim advocate teams, and the jury in this case for ensuring accountability for this senseless act of violence in our community. We hope that this verdict offers some closure and sense of justice to the families impacted by these heinous crimes.”
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office thanked Portland Police Bureau Detective Tony Harris, MCDA Investigators Anthony Merrill and Matt Estes, and Victim Advocate Soukthavy Kanhalikham for their dedicated work on the case.
