As a student of history, I enjoy attending community rallies of all sorts to document American life for posterity. The “No More Kings” protest in my local county seat of La Grande, Oregon promised to provide insight into the feelings and opinions of the American left five months into the second term of President Donald Trump. All the familiar elements of a leftist protest were present, including primarily white retirees, people wearing gender non-conforming clothes, and drums. It started off with a speech followed by call-and-response chants maligning President Trump as a dictator, illustrated by protest signs with phrases like, “I wasn’t paid to be here.” Near the end of the rally, an organizer brought a floating Trump baby balloon to the center of the town square. The crowd was encouraged to form a circle and dance while drums on the stage played. When the drumming stopped, the crowd was encouraged to turn around and, “show the bum your bum!” Participants then turned, bent over, shook their posteriors in the direction of the balloon, and were encouraged both to keep their clothes on – and make fart noises. It evoked the same reaction as Portland Congresswoman Maxine Dexter proclaiming at a recently rally, “We have to f*ck Trump!” The American left is fundamentally unserious and primed for irrelevance. Farting in the President’s general direction calls to mind Monty Python, not Martin Luther King, Jr., and makes it clear that there is no real opposition party in the United States of America. If liberty is truly dying, as Democrats see it, crass displays of pantomimed flatulence are at best a waste of time when real political opposition could be organized with just a little elbow grease. With no credible discipline among the American left, I am looking forward to a Republican sweep of Congress in 2026 and – dare I say it – the inauguration of President JD Vance on January 20, 2029.

Hilarious! I wish I could share the video on Instagram
