Oregon Young Republicans Call Out Senators for Hypocrisy

Oregon – Official Release: The Young Republicans of Oregon denounce Oregon Democratic Senators Jeff
Merkley and Ron Wyden due to their hypocrisy for voting no on Lori Chavez-Deremers
confirmation to be US Secretary of Labor.

According to KATU, Senator Merkley stated “It will be great to have an Oregonian who’s in the
cabinet. She was the most pro-labor Republican in the House of Representatives, and I plan to
support her.” In addition Wyden said, “It’s always a good idea to have someone who is
consistent with our way of life.”

“Secretary Chavez-DeRemer is the first woman from Oregon to ever serve in a presidential
cabinet. It is sad to see our Oregon Senators do an about-face after saying they would support
her. Lori received overwhelming bipartisan support in her confirmation vote and our Senators
would rather play politics instead of supporting our first cabinet member from Oregon since the
1980’s. Their hypocrisy speaks volumes and this is not the Oregon Way.” Stated YRO Chair

“I am deeply disappointed that our Senators decided to put their own agendas ahead of a highly
qualified woman that has been fighting for all Oregonians for many years from the local level to
congress to now the President’s cabinet.” Stated YRO National Committeewoman Isabella
