Salem, OR. –- Official Release: Today, the Senate Committee on Housing and Development held public hearings on two bipartisan bills introduced by Senator Dick Anderson (R-Lincoln City) to streamline the home building process in Oregon.
“This isn’t just about solving a crisis; it’s about building the future we want for Oregon. A future where families aren’t forced to leave their communities in search of affordable housing, and where workers can live in the town where they’re employed. A future where every Oregonian, no matter their income or background, has a place to thrive,” said Senator Anderson.
Cutting Unnecessary Costs & Delays that Block Housing Growth: SB 6 & SB 974
• SB 6 sets a 45-day limit for building departments to process and approve housing applications, effectively streamlining the building permit process for single family and middle housing homes.
• SB 974 cuts the process time for land use applications in the Urban Growth Boundary by 50% by eliminating housing delays due to local design review and reimbursing legal and engineering fees to approved applicants.
Oregon’s growing housing needs can only be met if the legislature works with industry to reduce barriers and create opportunities for building more homes quickly.
