Clackamas County, OR. – Commissioner Ben West has called for the resignation of fellow Commissioner Melissa Fireside. In a post on X West cited a reported forthcoming indictment on federal charges of theft. Commissioner Fireside was recently elected in November 2024 and her short time in office has been shrouded by this criminal investigation.
In January the Lake Oswego Review reported that at the January meeting of the County Board of Commissioners Chair Craig Roberts reports stated that he would let the legal process play out before making comment.
BREAKING! @clackamascounty Commissioner Melissa Fireside (Dem) will be indicted tomorrow on felony charges for allegedly stealing tens of thousands of dollars from an elderly man with significant health issues. Commissioner Fireside, you MUST resign! https://t.co/y8XyokSL5b

Concern over this investigation came shortly after the election when it was reported that people in Democrat political circles were aware of the investigation and forthcoming charges before the election. In a post on X PDX Real reported that the County Democrat Chair had been aware along with Craig Roberts.
Breaking news: Melissa Fireside, who was just elected to a Clackamas County commission position over incumbent Mark Shull in a close race, is soon to be charged for elder abuse and real estate fraud, both felonies.
