Sweet Home, OR. – Official Release: We have received inquiries regarding the threat made toward Sweet Home High School that led to today’s school closure. Please find a Q&A below addressing key concerns:
1. Has the individual involved ever been a student in the Sweet Home School District?
No, the individual has never been a student in the Sweet Home School District.
2. Is this threat connected to the one South Albany High School received yesterday?
There is no evidence to suggest any connection between the threat made toward Sweet Home High School and the one reported at South Albany High School.
3. Is this incident related to the increased police presence at Sweet Home High School on September 11?
No. The increased police presence on September 11 was in response to a general, non-specific threat we received over the summer, referencing potential violence around that date. After thorough investigation by the Sweet Home Police Department and school administration, that threat was deemed non-credible. However, as a precautionary measure, we increased police presence on that day.
4. Why was there a police vehicle with lights on in the school parking lot yesterday morning?
An officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction in front of the high school yesterday morning. The traffic stop had nothing to do with the high school except that it occurred in front of the school.
5. Will there be school tomorrow (Friday)?
We are in communication with law enforcement and will provide an update by this evening.
