Tigard, OR. – Official Release: Tigard Police officers are investigating a case where a man approached three women at a local park and grabbed one of them before he ran away. The man was quickly identified and arrested, but investigators are asking any other potential victims to please come forward.
All three incidents happened on Monday, August 12th along the trail near the volleyball court at Cook Family Park that connects the park to the neighborhoods on Tualatin Road.
A woman reported that at 7:30AM she was running on the trail leading to Cook Park when she passed a man who was approaching her on the trail. She heard a noise and turned around, and found the man was directly behind her. The woman pushed him away and yelled, and the man asked for the time.
At 12:30PM, a second woman reported being assaulted by a man she did not know in the same area. She reported she was on the walking path when a man came up behind her and grabbed her rear end with both hands. When she turned around, the man was already running away heading toward the woods.
Shortly after, responding officers found and arrested the suspect who was still in the wooded area near the trail. He’s identified as Jhonatan Temprana-Olivares, age 29 from Tualatin (photo attached). He was taken to jail charged with sex abuse III and harassment.
On Tuesday, a third woman called in to report a similar circumstance. She said she was on the same trail around 8:30AM Monday walking her dog when a man with the same description asked her for the time and started petting her dog. She began walking away, but her dog stopped and she turned around. She reported the man had followed her and was directly behind her, then said “You’re very handsome” and asked if she was single. The woman yelled at him and headed to the closest neighborhood.
Investigators are sharing Mr. Temprana-Olivares’ booking photo due to the potential for additional victims. If you had a similar encounter with him, please call non-emergency dispatch at 503-629-0111 to talk to an officer or email tips@tigard-or.gov.
