McMinnville, OR. – Official Release: On June 25th, 2024, McMinnville PD began an investigation into concerns about physical contact between the then head football coach of Westview High School (Beaverton School District) and the players on the team, during a football camp that was taking place at Linfield University in McMinnville. The physical contact was described as slapping or shaking the players during the night while they were sleeping. It was noted in a previous press release that the then football coach is also a fulltime Police Officer with the Hillsboro Police Department.
Over the course of the next couple weeks, numerous interviews were conducted and many video recordings were collected that captured various portions of the overall incident. The investigation to date determined that probable cause existed for the arrest of 32-year-old Jamal Jones (of Sherwood) for multiple counts of Harassment (ORS 166.065; B-Misdemeanor).
On July 10th, 2024, Mr. Jones willingly turned himself in to McMinnville PD personnel and he was arrested on twelve (12) counts of Harassment. Mr. Jones was processed in the Yamhill County Jail and is expected to be released under a release agreement pending a future court date, which is commonplace for the involved offense(s). This overall investigation is being forwarded to the Yamhill County District Attorney’s Office and any information inquiries should be directed to their office at 535 NE 5th ST in McMinnville, or by phone at 503-434-7530.
