Beatty, Oregon-based State Senator Dennis Linthicum filed in the Republican Primary for Secretary of State today. Senator Linthicum served as Klamath County Commissioner from 2009-2015, foregoing re-election in favor of a failed primary challenge to Republican Congressman Greg Walden in 2014. Linthicum has served in the Oregon State Senate since 2015. While serving as Senator, Linthicum concurrently held the office of Treasurer of the Oregon Republican Party from 2021-2022, resigning to be replaced by Sodaville city manager Alex McHaddad. Following legislative walkouts in 2023, Democrat Oregon Secretary of State LaVonne Griffin-Valade barred Senator Linthicum and most of his Republican colleague from seeking reelection based on an unconstitutional interpretation of Measure 113. A lawsuit adjudicated by the Oregon Supreme Court, in which all members were originally appointed by Democratic Governors Kate Brown and Tina Kotek, ultimately sided with the Secretary of State’s Unconstitutional interpretation to bar members of the opposition party from holding office. The last Republican elected Secretary of State was the late Dennis Richardson, succeeded in the office after his untimely passing by the Honorable Bev Clarno.
