Motorhome Fire north of Juniper Ridge Extinguished and is Under Investigation

On February 10th, a motorhome fire was reported near mile post 131 on Highway 97, north of Bend. The fire was extinguished by Bend Fire units, with the occupant leaving prior to emergency arrival. An investigation is ongoing. Bend Fire urges caution with open flames.

This morning a fire was reported off of Highway 97 near mile post 131, north of Bend, in an area located north of Juniper Ridge. The fire was called in around 09:00 on February 10th, after multiple reports of a large smoke column in the area.  

A fire engine and support vehicle from Bend Fire & Rescue and units from Deschutes County Sheriffs Office responded to the scene.  Units on scene found a fully involved motorhome on fire with severe damage.  Bend Fire units extinguished the fire and performed a fire investigation.

Reports from a witness on scene stated that the single occupant of the motorhome had informed him of the fire and left the scene prior to emergency units arrival.  The fire is still under investigation at this time and an updated media release will be completed when more information is obtained. 

Bend Fire would like to remind everyone to be extremely cautious when using any kind of open flames, in or outdoors.  If open flame devices are being used always have them attended and well away from combustible materials, have working smoke alarms properly installed and never fall asleep with an open flame in use.  Before using open flame devices that are intended for cooking or heating, read and follow the manufacturers guidelines and follow local codes that pertain to their use.
