February 5, 2024 – Rep. Kevin Mannix: Representative Mannix Announces Commencement of the 2024 Legislative Session, Priority Legislation, and Committee Assignments
Today, Representative Kevin Mannix (R-Keizer/North Salem) announced the commencement of the 2024 Legislative Session, his priority legislation, as well as his extensive list of committee assignments. “If there is one challenge the Legislature must address in the next 35 days – it is Measure 110 and Oregon’s addiction crisis. Any change that is taken must be comprehensive enough for Oregonians themselves to see the change on our streets and within their communities. We must provide our already overextended law enforcement and prosecutors the tools they need to do their jobs effectively,” said Representative Mannix. “In addition, I am excited to have introduced two pieces of legislation I believe will make a critical difference in the lives of some of our most vulnerable populations – our students, and those that have become prey to stalking. It is an honor to represent the communities of Keizer and North Salem in the Oregon Legislature.”
Representative Mannix’s Priority Bills for the Session:
- Modernizing Oregon’s Anti-Stalking Law (House Bill 4156)
- Representative Mannix wrote the original law in 1995. While it has worked well for the areas it covers, society now has a modern internet and electronic communications to deal with. This legislation will broaden the scope of the stalking law to cover many new kinds of electronic and internet harassment, including efforts to damage a victim’s identity and credit rating.
- Oregon’s Student Protection Law (House Bill 4160)
- This legislation is designed to reduce the opportunity for predatory sexual behavior by educators who work with children. Representative Mannix is working with the Salem-Keizer School District and other school authorities to strengthen the protections against grooming behaviors by staff with students who are near high school graduation.
Representative Mannix’s Committee Assignments:
- Joint Committee On Conduct – Co-Chair
- House Committee On Conduct – Co-Chair
- Joint Committee On Transportation Special Subcommittee On Transportation Planning – Co-Vice Chair
- Joint Committee On Transportation
- Joint Committee On Interstate 5 Bridge
- Joint Committee On Information Management and Technology
- Joint Committee On Ways and Means
