It has come to our attention that citizens in our community have been subject to fraudulent phone calls by scammers impersonating law enforcement to collect outstanding traffic fines. They have threatened individuals with repercussions of not paying debts with a warrant and demanding payment over the phone.
We would like to firmly advise all community members that this is a scam – genuine law enforcement and federal agencies do not act in this manner. If you are in any doubt, we urge you to hang up and contact our non-emergency number to speak with the Deputy who purportedly called you at 503-588-5032. If you believe that scammers have targeted you, we advise you to report the phone number to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
