Rep. Shelly Boshart Davis House District 15 Service and Support Tour: Linn Benton Community College

Building Community Together!
In HD-15, we’re all about people coming together, making connections, helping those in need, and doing great things. What makes our HD-15 community truly special? It’s our commitment to strengthening ties, raising awareness, offering opportunity and forming powerful partnerships.
This week, I set out on a ‘Service and Support Tour’ around HD-15. And I wanted to share with you the amazing individuals and organizations that make our community thrive. I’d like to share these resources and help you discover the “who, what, and how” to make a difference. So many people want to help, to do “something”, but don’t know where to start – maybe something posted this week inspires you! I know it inspires me.
By focusing on these good things, we can make a real difference in the lives of our neighbors. HD-15 has the resources, we have a great community, and most importantly, we support each other like family.
Join me as I work towards building more community awareness – one visit at a time!
Also on Tuesday, I got to participate in a fun community event. In 2021, my office worked closely with President Avery and team at LBCC to help secure the funding for their new and much needed ADA access point in Takena Hall. President Avery humorously calls their new Takena Hall elevator, the ‘Shellevator.’
Takena Hall is the front door to Linn-Benton Community College (LBCC). It houses most of LBCC’s Student Services and is, therefore, one of the busiest buildings on their main campus. Takena Hall also houses the Russell Tripp Theater and is frequently used by patrons of the arts and general public.
First floor offices include Registration, Advising, and Financial Aid. The second-floor houses High School Partnerships, Healthcare Careers offices, and other support staff.
It is common for students, their parents, and members of the general public to need access to offices on both floors. The nearest elevators are in adjacent buildings about 75 yards away. For someone with mobility barriers, this is highly challenging. While they are technically ADA compliant, they had a need to make access to the second floor in Takena Hall much easier for those who need it the most.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the ‘Shellevator’ was held on Tuesday and I loved being a part of it. President Lisa Avery, key members of the LBCC team, community leaders, Board Members, students, and myself were on hand for this happy event.
LBCC is an important part of our community, helping build the workforce for tomorrow. District 15 doing great things!
