September 22, 2023 – State of Oregon Newsroom: Portland Central City Task Force Announces Committee Membership
Today, Governor Tina Kotek and Co-Chair Dan McMillan, president and CEO of The Standard, announced who will serve on and chair each of the five issue-specific Portland Central City Task Force committees, including Central City Value Proposition, Livable Neighborhoods, Community Safety, Housing and Homelessness, and Taxes for Services.
As of this week, the committees are up and running and will continue to meet regularly and present their recommendations to the full task force for consideration over the course of the next four months. Committee membership consists of task force members and additional community leaders.
The task force, and committees, have representatives from big and small businesses, members of the Oregon federal delegation, state lawmakers, city leaders, community leaders, and more. The committee structure is designed to ensure that the task force meets its objectives to make actionable recommendations by the Oregon Business Summit on December 11, based on input from subject matter experts and diverse, impacted communities.
“This is about bringing a cross-section of Portlanders together to help write the Central City’s next chapter,” Governor Kotek said. “The breadth of stakeholders on each committee speaks to the overwhelming enthusiasm to see Portland succeed. This work will require focus and urgency. When I look at this list, I see a group of people that can do big things.”
“Our aim is to create a compelling vision for Portland’s Central City and quickly implement plans to get there,” Co-Chair Dan McMillan said. “Residents, businesses and nonprofits are hungry for results and we are harnessing that energy. We are humbled at the outpouring of support and volunteer offers to help create a Central City for the future.”
