Oregon ranks second in the nation for people diagnosed with substance use disorders. Yet there are no residential treatment facilities anywhere in Lincoln County. Many residents must travel up to 300 miles to access appropriate services.
To address this crises the Pacific Communities Health District purchased a facility in Newport and are remodeling the space to create a 16 bed residential and intensive outpatient program for adults (18+) who have substance use disorders.
I’ve been working relentlessly since first hearing about the project to ensure the state provides financial backing for this crucial need. While it took longer than I would have liked, I am thrilled to recently be assured of a nearly $3million commitment from the state to the project. The state will be joining the county, local cities, the Siletz tribe, the federal government and countless philanthropic and community partners with their support.
So keep your eyes peeled at 5840 NW Biggs Street as they retrofit and upgrade the facility. There will also be a community education component on site, and Samaritan Health Services will operate and maintain it.
While patients will have access come from across Oregon to this resource, priority is given to residents of Lincoln County.
