Combining is well underway! And I have a guest today… Case in a Case! She hurt herself while we were working nights, so needs some babysitting (and clothes) to keep from scratching at her wound 🙄

The latest on Measure 114 👇 This will surely still be appealed, and seems far from the final chapter in Measure 114’s passage.

How do you feel about taxation without representation? City of Salem’s new income tax will also apply to people living outside of City limits–who had no say in this tax.
There is an effort to collect the 4,000 signatures needed by August 9 to at least refer this tax to Salem voters, but non-Salem residents will still have no say in the matter, despite being on the hook to pay a new tax.
Salem residents: check out how to help get this tax on the ballot at 👇

Only Salem residents can sign the petition! But anyone can encourage friends and family living in Salem to sign 👍

Released from prison early by former Governor Brown. A suspect in 4 killings.
Time and again, we’ve seen these early-release criminals preying on our communities, and other criminals walking free because of Oregon’s “soft on crime” laws. And the Majority in Salem continues making things more-legal, while refusing to even have hearings on bills that would move us back towards a state of law and order.
We can’t keep doing the same thing while expecting different results. If we want safe communities again, we have to allow our law enforcement (and judicial system) to actually hold criminals accountable.

A federal judge last week found Measure 114 to be Constitutional.
The decision has been appealed to the Ninth Circuit. Their decision will likely take a year.
But that decision could very well be appealed to the US Supreme Court, which could be several years away.
And the court case challenging the Constitutionality under Oregon’s Constitution won’t be heard until September.

I’ve been hearing more and more concerns from constituents about the Muddy Creek Energy Park project in Southern Linn County, and wanted to make sure folks know about the opportunity to meet with representatives of the project as well as the Oregon Department of Energy coming up next week.
👉When: July 25, starting at 5pm
👉Where: Brownsville City Hall’s Community Room
This project is planned to cover 2.5 square miles, or 1,588 acres of exclusive farm use (EFU) land. We continue to see more and more green energy projects taking up farm land, and it is a growing concern for where our “environmental” priorities really lay. A recent study out of Washington revealed that land suited for solar is almost non-existent without impacting agriculture. I’m encouraged that this project at least aims to somewhat still incorporate agriculture into the plans, but… I will believe it when (or if) I see it. Too often we see ideas promised, and they don’t pan out so get abandoned, feeling likee false promises.

The CAMS project at the Capitol continues to fascinate me… Here’s the latest update on making our State Capitol safe for earthquakes 👇
The CAMS Project will begin to erect scaffolding on the exterior of the Capitol Rotunda Dome on July 26, 2023. The scaffolding will provide access for construction personnel to perform the needed updates to seismic work installed in the dome in 1994.
These updates include:
Removing and replacing observation deck tile
Upgrading the anchors for the Pioneer Man
Adding additional shotcrete to support the structure
Strengthening the drum with 22 new vertical trusses
Adding anchor rods
Installing carbon fiber at the windows
The scaffolding will take approximately 30 days to erect and will remain in place into late 2024. This process will begin with the arrival of a 300-ton crane with a 257-foot boom that will reach a height of 232 feet.
