MEDFORD, Ore. (April 9, 2026) — A convicted felon has been sentenced to more than five years in federal prison for unlawfully possessing firearms on multiple occasions, federal prosecutors announced.
Devon James Wright, 31, was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
According to court documents, Wright was found in possession of firearms during two separate incidents in 2024. On June 23, Wright was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation. During the stop, officers discovered a semi-automatic pistol and a fully loaded magazine inside Wright’s backpack. At the time, he was on parole for a prior conviction involving unlawful firearm possession.
In a second incident on October 26, 2024, Wright was stopped while driving a stolen vehicle. Before exiting, authorities said he placed a loaded handgun into the purse of another occupant. A fully loaded extended magazine was also recovered nearby.
A federal grand jury in Medford indicted Wright on March 6, 2025, on two counts of felon in possession of a firearm. He later pleaded guilty to both counts on December 8, 2025.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, with assistance from the Portland Police Bureau and the Central Point Police Department. Prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Melissa E. LeRitz and John C. Brassell.
