Tigard, OR. — The Tigard City Council has voted to bring back a traditional fireworks display for the city’s 2026 Fourth of July celebration, replacing last year’s drone show and reducing overall costs.
The decision, approved January 6, marks a return to a long-standing community tradition while saving an estimated $52,500 compared to the 2025 drone display. This year’s fireworks show is expected to cost approximately $27,500.
City leaders said the change reflects both fiscal considerations and community input. Residents expressed strong support for restoring fireworks, which had previously been replaced by a drone-based alternative.
In addition to lower costs, the fireworks display will run for about 20 minutes, compared to roughly 12 minutes for the drone show. Some community members described the shift as offering “more bang for the buck.”
The 2026 celebration will coincide with the 250th anniversary of the United States, adding significance to the return of the traditional display.
Fireworks will be launched from Cook Family Park, with public viewing available from the grass fields at Tigard High School. The event will be produced by Western Fireworks Display, a company that has supported Tigard’s past celebrations.
City officials also noted opportunities for local businesses and vendors to sponsor the event, with additional details available through the city.
