Tillamook County, OR. — A vehicle-versus-pedestrian incident at Rockaway Beach Wayside on Sunday escalated into a violent confrontation that left one man stabbed and multiple people injured.
According to the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 1:11 p.m. on March 22, 2026, to reports that a silver Jeep Patriot struck a pregnant woman who was carrying her two-year-old son while walking with her husband in a parking area.
After the vehicle stopped, the woman’s husband confronted the occupants. During the confrontation, a male passenger exited the vehicle and stabbed the husband in the back before fleeing the scene in the vehicle.
Authorities said the vehicle traveled a short distance before stopping, and the female driver returned to the scene on foot and cooperated with deputies. The male suspect fled on foot and attempted to avoid detection by changing clothing but was located a short time later and taken into custody without incident.
The pregnant woman and her child were injured in the initial collision but are expected to recover. The husband was transported to a local hospital with a stab wound and is also expected to survive.
The 25-year-old suspect was lodged at the Tillamook County Jail on charges including first-degree assault, menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, and disorderly conduct.
Sheriff Josh Brown said the situation “escalated quickly” and praised both deputies and bystanders for their swift response and assistance. The case has been forwarded to the Tillamook County District Attorney’s Office for review.
