Baker City, OR. — A juvenile suspect has been arrested following an investigation into gang-related graffiti discovered in multiple locations across Baker City, according to police.
Officers responded the evening of March 18 to reports of vandalism in an alley between 1st and 2nd streets and at the Highway 7 underpass near Orchard Street. The graffiti was identified as “tagging” associated with the 18th Street Gang, prompting an immediate response from patrol officers and detectives.
Authorities say the investigation quickly led to the identification and arrest of one juvenile, who was taken into custody and transported to the Canyon County Juvenile Detention Center in Idaho. The suspect faces a charge of Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, a Class C felony. Officials estimate the cost to remove the graffiti exceeds $1,000.
Police say the case remains active, and additional arrests are anticipated as investigators continue to examine the incident and any potential connections to broader gang activity.
The Baker City Police Department emphasized that it is working with regional law enforcement partners to address gang-related crime and prevent organized criminal activity from taking hold in the community.
In a statement, the department reaffirmed its commitment to public safety, noting that many residents choose Baker County for its secure environment. Officials said they remain focused on protecting youth, supporting families, and maintaining the safety and well-being of the community.
