Oregon — Republican candidate Douglas T. Muck Jr. announced he is withdrawing from the 2026 race for Oregon’s U.S. Senate seat, saying the decision is intended to avoid splitting the Republican vote ahead of the general election.
In a statement posted online, Muck said he had spent the past six months actively campaigning and building relationships across the state.
“I have had an amazing six months of campaigning and have made some great friends and connections for staying involved in helping to save Oregon,” Muck wrote.
Muck said his decision follows the entry of two experienced Republican candidates into the race. Rather than continue competing in a crowded primary field, he said Republican voters should focus on choosing the candidate best positioned to defeat incumbent Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley in the general election.
“I don’t want to split the vote,” Muck said. “Time for us to choose who can truly beat Merkley in the general election.”
Muck indicated that he has not yet formally endorsed a candidate but said his choice will likely come down to either Joe Rae or State Senator David Brock Smith. He encouraged supporters and voters to research both candidates before making a decision.
“I have not chosen yet myself but it will be between Joe Rae and Senator Brock,” Muck said. “I suggest you all do your research, and I will post my decision once I’ve made it.”
He concluded his message by thanking supporters who backed his campaign during the past several months.
Muck’s withdrawal narrows the Republican field as candidates begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2026 election cycle. Senator Jeff Merkley, a Democrat first elected in 2008, is seeking another term.
I Have Had a amazing 6 months of Campaigning, and have made some great friends and connection’s for staying involved in helping to save Oregon ! But with the recent Two, experienced Republican Candidate’s entering the race, I don’t want to split the vote, time for us to choose who can truly beat Merkley in the general election ?
I have not chosen yet myself but it will be between Joe Rae, and Senator Brock, I suggest you all do your research, and I will post my decision once I’ve made it !
