Vancouver, WA. — Fire crews responded to a residential structure fire in Vancouver late this afternoon that sent flames into the attic of a single-story home but resulted in no injuries.
Just after 4:00 p.m., the Vancouver Fire Department was dispatched to reports of a house fire at 3000 NE 45th Street. First-arriving crews found heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the home.
Firefighters reported the blaze had extended into the attic. Crews advanced a hoseline inside the structure to attack the fire, while additional firefighters climbed ladders and used chainsaws to cut ventilation holes in the roof, allowing heat and smoke to escape.
The fire was brought under control in approximately 25 minutes.
During the incident, an electrical line on the side of the home fell to the ground, briefly creating a safety concern. Clark Public Utilities responded quickly to shut off power to the residence.
Three occupants and a pet were able to escape safely without injury and declined assistance from the Red Cross. In total, 22 firefighters responded to the scene.
Crews remained on site conducting overhaul operations to extinguish remaining hot spots. No additional injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office.
