Washington County, OR. — A four-story log house in unincorporated Washington County was destroyed by fire Saturday afternoon, displacing five residents but causing no reported injuries.
At 12:38 p.m., multiple 911 callers reported black smoke and flames coming from the 21900 block of Southwest Hillsboro Highway. As first-arriving crews approached, they observed a large column of dark smoke and upgraded the response to bring additional resources.
Firefighters arrived to find the multi-story log home fully engulfed in flames. The fire was threatening nearby trees, an RV, and other outbuildings. Command upgraded the incident to a second alarm to secure more personnel and equipment.
Due to the home’s rural location and a driveway approximately 400 feet long, crews had to shuttle water to the scene. Water tenders were dispatched to maintain supply while firefighters conducted an aggressive exterior attack to protect surrounding exposures.
Neighbors confirmed with homeowners that all residents and pets were away at the time of the fire. Within 12 minutes of firefighters beginning suppression efforts, the roof of the structure collapsed.
With assistance from Hillsboro Fire & Rescue and Dundee Fire Department, crews brought the blaze under control. The home and RV were declared total losses.
Five residents have been displaced. A fire investigator is working to determine the cause.
Officials also thanked Washington County Sheriff’s Office, AMR, Portland General Electric, Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency, Oregon Department of Transportation, and the City of Newberg for assisting with off-site water supply and scene support.
