Keizer, OR. — The Keizer Police Department is investigating two separate shootings that occurred late Feb. 9 and early Feb. 10 at Keizer Station, leaving two men injured and prompting an arrest in one case.
The first shooting was reported around 10:15 p.m. near the intersection of Keizer Station Boulevard and Ulali Drive NE. Authorities said a Salem family of four — a 28-year-old mother and father and their two children, ages 2 and 7 — had just left In-N-Out Burger and were driving through the intersection when gunfire struck their vehicle.
The father, who was driving, suffered a serious but non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the head. Despite his injuries, he was able to drive the family to the Keizer Fire District station, where he received initial medical attention before being transported to the emergency department at Salem Hospital for further treatment.
While detectives were at the hospital with the first victim, a second victim arrived by private vehicle with serious but non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to his leg. Investigators believe he was also connected to the first shooting.
Detectives worked through the night collecting physical and digital evidence in an effort to identify those responsible for the initial gunfire. No arrests have been announced in that case.
Several hours later, at approximately 3:15 a.m. Feb. 10, officers responded again to Keizer Station after reports of a man brandishing a handgun and threatening a Sysco delivery driver at Hops & Drops restaurant. Police said the driver took shelter inside the business as the suspect fired multiple shots into the delivery truck.
Later that day, around 1 p.m., detectives arrested 42-year-old transient Keith A. Winans in connection with the second incident. He faces charges including menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, attempted burglary, criminal mischief and initiating a false report. The firearm used in the second shooting was recovered near the scene.
Winans was processed and lodged at the Marion County Correctional Facility, where he was released to intake staff on the listed charges.
Police continue to follow leads related to the first shooting and are asking anyone with information to contact the Keizer Police Department.
