Happy Valley, OR. — The City of Happy Valley, Team Rubicon, and community partners came together Thursday morning to help a local Vietnam veteran remain safely housed.
Volunteers gathered at Carver Mobile Home Ranch to assist Gary, a Vietnam veteran whose home had fallen out of compliance with HOA and park standards due to rising costs and limited resources. Team Rubicon volunteers joined Tom Ellis, Director of Community Services Steve Campbell, and city staff to complete the repairs.
During the morning work effort, volunteers removed deteriorated siding, installed new materials, and painted the home, bringing it up to required standards and allowing Gary to remain in his residence.
The project was made possible by PARR Lumber – Damascus, which donated all necessary supplies, including siding, paint, and other materials.
City staff first connected with Gary while checking on residents during recent flooding along the Clackamas River. Neighbors shared that he was struggling to maintain his home amid increasing expenses.
Moved by his situation, the city partnered with Team Rubicon, a veteran-led humanitarian organization that supports communities before, during, and after disasters. A Team Rubicon volunteer known as Maverick said the effort reflected the organization’s commitment to service and community support.
Mayor Ellis worked alongside volunteers during the repairs, calling the effort an example of neighbors helping neighbors and veterans supporting veterans.
The City of Happy Valley thanked Team Rubicon, PARR Lumber, and all volunteers who participated, noting their efforts reflected the compassion, teamwork, and community spirit that define Happy Valley.
