Marion County, OR. — A Marion County man was sentenced Friday to nearly 29 years in prison for multiple counts of child sexual abuse involving a family member.
On January 23, 2026, James Edmonds sentenced Richard Anthony Clinger, 54, to a total of 28.75 years in prison following his guilty plea to five felony sex crimes committed between 2006 and 2008. At the time of the abuse, the victim was under the age of 10.
Clinger pleaded guilty to four counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree and one count of Attempted Sodomy in the First Degree. Court officials said each count represented a separate incident and distinct criminal episode.
The investigation began in 2024, when the now-adult victim reported the abuse to law enforcement. Clinger was arrested in January 2025 and has remained in custody since that time.
The case was investigated by the Mount Angel Police Department, with Deputy Chief Charlie Hall serving as the lead investigator.
Prosecutors said the case was handled by Deputy District Attorneys Kylie Kuhns and Meghan Kamps.
Due to the sensitive nature of the crimes and to protect the victim’s privacy, officials said no additional details about the case will be released.
