Anaheim, CA. — A Southern California man has been arrested on a federal criminal complaint alleging he made online death threats against JD Vance during the Vice President’s visit to the Disneyland Resort last year.
Marco Antonio Aguayo, 22, of Anaheim, is charged with making threats against the President and successors to the Presidency. He is expected to make his initial appearance Tuesday in United States District Court.
According to court documents, Vice President Vance visited and stayed at the Disneyland Resort on July 12, 2025. On the same day, Aguayo allegedly posted several public comments on the Instagram account of The Walt Disney Company threatening violence in connection with the Vice President’s presence.
One post claimed that “pipe bombs have been placed in preparation for J.D. Vance’s arrival.” Additional messages included statements warning of bloodshed and violent action against public officials, according to an affidavit filed with the complaint.
Law enforcement officers later visited Aguayo at his residence, where he surrendered his cellphone. Investigators reported observing the threatening messages on the device.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi condemned the alleged threats, calling the case “a horrific reminder of the dangers public officials face,” and praised law enforcement efforts that led to the arrest.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said authorities will not tolerate threats against elected officials and emphasized that online anonymity does not shield individuals from prosecution.
A criminal complaint contains allegations only, and Aguayo is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. If convicted, he faces a statutory maximum sentence of five years in federal prison.
The investigation is being led by the United States Secret Service, with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Anaheim Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert K. Quealy of the Major Frauds Section.
