Albany, OR. — The Albany Police Department is investigating a fatal incident that occurred on the evening of January 16, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old Albany resident.
At approximately 10:08 p.m., officers responded to a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash on Southeast 19th Avenue near Southeast Tudor Way. The pedestrian, identified as Paige Michael Charlene McClintock, suffered critical injuries and was transported by Albany Fire Department personnel to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. Despite lifesaving efforts, Paige later died at the hospital.
Preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the involved vehicle, a white 2005 Nissan Altima, was Paige’s older sister, 18-year-old Kirah Kristine McClintock. Police said Kirah was located nearby, cooperated fully with investigators, and that impairment does not appear to be a contributing factor at this time.
According to investigators, the collision occurred as Paige and another sibling were pushing a rolling tool chest in the roadway when the vehicle struck the toolbox and Paige. Authorities said Kirah was following her sisters in the vehicle at a slow, walking speed. The Nissan Altima was seized under a search warrant for further examination.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy for this family and our community,” police said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to everyone affected, and we ask for patience and support for the family, friends, and first responders as we work to understand the circumstances.”
Paige McClintock was a student at Albany Options School. Greater Albany Public Schools officials said counselors and support teams will be available for students when classes resume next week.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Albany Police Department Sergeant Eric Tress at 541-917-7680 and reference APD Case Number 26-00274.
