Bend, OR. — Officers with the Bend Police Department arrested a 27-year-old Bend man Tuesday afternoon following an extensive search in northeast Bend that began after a reported firearm threat the night before.
At approximately 10:28 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, police responded to a report of a man brandishing a firearm at another person in the parking lot of the Quickway Market on NE Butler Market Road. Investigators identified the suspect as Joel Twobulls Caubet, who fled the scene with a woman in a red 1997 Land Rover.
At about 1:42 p.m. Tuesday, officers located the suspect vehicle traveling on Third Street near Empire Avenue. Caubet was in the passenger seat as the vehicle drove through several neighborhoods before he ran from the vehicle near the intersection of NE Boulderfield Avenue and Meridian Place.
Police detained the driver, identified as 27-year-old Marjorie Deleen Eyle of Bend. She was cited for reckless driving and released at the scene.
Officers established a perimeter in the area and deployed drones along with K-9 Buck to search for Caubet, who was seen attempting to enter a backyard. At approximately 2:28 p.m., officers located Caubet hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 63000 block of NE Meridian Place. K-9 Buck bit Caubet during the arrest, and he was taken into custody without further incident.
Caubet was transported to St. Charles Bend with minor injuries and will be lodged at the Deschutes County Jail.
Caubet faces multiple charges, including two counts of menacing, disorderly conduct in the second degree, unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of a weapon, and trespassing.
During the investigation, a detective also located a replica handgun near the intersection of NE Peale Street and Boulderfield Avenue.
