Albany, OR. — Authorities are investigating two separate incidents involving gunshot wounds in Albany on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, including an officer-involved shooting during a domestic disturbance and a later, unrelated death near the city’s police department.
According to the Albany Police Department, officers responded at approximately 10:48 a.m. to a reported domestic disturbance involving a weapon in the 1300 block of Twins Lane NW. Upon arrival, officers encountered an individual armed with a knife.
Police said two officers discharged their firearms, striking the individual. Officers immediately rendered medical aid until emergency responders arrived. The individual was transported to an area hospital for treatment; their condition has not been released.
No officers were injured in the incident, and another individual inside the residence was not harmed. In accordance with department policy and Oregon law, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.
The Benton County Major Crimes Team is conducting an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting, with the Albany Police Department fully cooperating.
As a precaution during the initial response, North Albany Middle School and North Albany Elementary School were placed on lockdown. The lockdown was lifted approximately 20 minutes later after police secured the scene.

Later that day, at approximately 12:44 p.m., Michelle Duncan, Linn County Sheriff, reported a separate incident near the Albany Police Department building at 2600 Pacific Boulevard. Employees discovered a male slumped near the building and requested assistance while officers were handling an unrelated high-priority call.
Deputies with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office arrived and determined the male had suffered a gunshot wound, possibly self-inflicted. The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, and the individual’s name has not been released as deputies work to notify family members and associates.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Albany Police Department, the Linn County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Albany Fire Department.
