Coos Bay, OR. — Christopher Blodgett, a 50-year-old Coos Bay resident, has been arraigned on multiple felony charges following a fatal shooting that occurred in late December in a retail parking lot.
On December 28, 2025, at approximately 1:55 p.m., the North Coos 911 Center received reports of a shooting in the parking lot of Staples at 1995 Newmark Avenue in Coos Bay. Callers provided dispatchers with a description and license plate number of the suspect vehicle, which was immediately relayed to responding officers.
Officers with the Coos Bay Police Department arrived at the scene around 2:00 p.m. and attempted life-saving measures on the victim, identified as David Orr, 39, also of Coos Bay. Despite medical response, Orr was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Approximately five minutes later, at 2:05 p.m., an officer with the North Bend Police Department located the suspect vehicle parked near 33rd Street and Vine Avenue. Officers detained the vehicle’s occupants, and Blodgett was arrested as the suspected shooter just 13 minutes after the initial 911 call.
Blodgett was initially held on unrelated warrants from the Oregon State Parole Board, Grants Pass Police Department, and Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. Formal charges related to the homicide were later filed by the Coos County District Attorney’s Office.
On December 31, 2025, Blodgett was arraigned on charges including second-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping, coercion, felon in possession of a firearm, fourth-degree assault, and harassment.
Police credited rapid coordination among local and regional agencies for the swift arrest, including assistance from the Oregon State Police, Coos County Major Crime Team, Coos Bay Fire Department, and Bay Cities Ambulance.
