Cowlitz County, WA. — Firefighters from Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue responded to a reported shop fire early Sunday morning in the 400 block of Moilanen Road.
Crews were dispatched at approximately 4:21 a.m. and arrived to find a large shop fully involved, with fire extending into nearby trees. Firefighters initiated an aggressive attack and brought the blaze under control shortly after 5:30 a.m.
All occupants were safely out of the residence at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. Fire officials said the shop is considered a total loss; however, an adjacent shop and the primary residence were not damaged.
Suppression efforts were initially challenged by the lack of fire hydrants in the rural area, requiring water tenders to shuttle water to the scene. Additional assistance was provided by Cowlitz County Fire District #6 and Longview Fire.
Cowlitz County Public Utility District and local law enforcement deputies also responded to support operations and ensure scene safety.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
