Lebanon, OR. — The Lebanon Fire District is honoring the retirement of two longtime leaders whose combined careers span more than 70 years of dedicated service to the community.
Division Chief and Fire Marshal Ken Foster and Lieutenant/Acting Battalion Chief Michael Maynard officially concluded their service this year, marking the end of two distinguished careers shaped by mentorship, sacrifice, and a lifelong commitment to public safety.
“Their careers represent sacrifice, grit, compassion, and unwavering commitment,” said Fire Chief John Tacy. “Ken and Mike shaped lives, mentored future generations, and set a standard of excellence that will live long beyond their final shifts.”
Foster served the district for 36 years, beginning as a volunteer firefighter in 1989 before rising through the ranks to Division Chief of Fire and Life Safety/Fire Marshal. Coming from a family deeply rooted in public service, Foster credited mentors and colleagues for guiding his career and highlighted his work modernizing fire and life safety programs as a major professional achievement. He said his greatest pride, however, remains his family and the opportunity to serve the Lebanon community.
Lieutenant and Acting Battalion Chief Michael Maynard retires after 33 years with the district. Introduced to the fire service as a child, Maynard joined Lebanon Fire District in 1992 and advanced from resident volunteer to full-time firefighter, lieutenant, and acting battalion chief. He reflected on memorable rescues, the importance of teamwork, and the need to address mental health challenges within the fire service, encouraging others to seek help when needed.
Maynard said he is most proud of serving alongside his fellow firefighters during a period of rapidly increasing call volumes, noting that annual calls have nearly tripled since he began his career. As he enters retirement, he looks forward to spending more time with his family and enjoying life outside the station.
The Lebanon Fire District thanked both retirees for their decades of service and lasting impact on the organization and community.
