Coos Bay, OR. — A suspect is in custody following a fatal shooting Sunday afternoon in the parking lot of a Staples store in Coos Bay.
According to authorities, the North Coos 911 Center received multiple reports at approximately 1:55 p.m. on Dec. 28, 2025, of a shooting at the Staples located at 1995 Newmark Avenue. Callers provided dispatchers with a description and license plate number of the suspect vehicle, which was immediately relayed to responding officers with the Coos Bay Police Department.
Officers arrived at the scene around 2:00 p.m. and attempted lifesaving measures on the victim, identified as 39-year-old David Orr of Coos Bay. Despite efforts by police and responding medical personnel, Orr was pronounced deceased at the scene.
At approximately 2:05 p.m., an officer with the North Bend Police Department located the suspect vehicle parked near the intersection of 33rd Street and Vine Avenue. Coos Bay police officers responded to the location, detained the vehicle’s occupants, and arrested the suspected shooter.
The Coos County Major Crime Team has been activated to assist with the investigation, which remains ongoing. Due to the active investigation, authorities said the identity of the suspected shooter will not be released until an arraignment later this week. The suspect is currently being held at the Coos County Jail on unrelated charges.
Agencies assisting in the response include the Oregon State Police, North Bend Police Department, South Coast Interagency Narcotics Team, Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indian Tribal Police, the Coos County District Attorney’s Office, Coos County Medical Examiner, and Coos County Parole and Probation. Additional on-scene assistance was provided by the Coos Bay Fire Department and Bay Cities Ambulance.
