Corvallis, OR. — Authorities have released an update on a law enforcement incident that unfolded Dec. 16 in the 800 block of NW 23rd Street during the execution of a warrant related to a stolen firearm.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., officers from the Corvallis Police Department responded to the residence to serve the warrant. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Corvallis resident Jacob Jaeger, barricaded himself inside a room within the home and told officers he was armed with a handgun. He refused repeated commands to exit the residence.
For roughly three and a half hours, officers from the Corvallis Police Department, Benton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Linn County Regional Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team attempted to resolve the situation peacefully. Efforts included telephone negotiations, loudspeaker announcements, and the use of drones.
At about 11:50 a.m., SWAT team members breached a locked door to gain limited access to the room where Jaeger was believed to be located. Officers found Jaeger deceased inside the room, with investigators determining the cause of death to be an apparent drug overdose. A loaded handgun was located nearby.
Law enforcement personnel and Corvallis Fire Department medics immediately attempted life-saving measures, but those efforts were unsuccessful.
The incident remains under investigation. Officials said no additional information will be released at this time.
