Albany, OR. — A 35-year-old Albany man died Saturday morning following a suspected fentanyl overdose, and detectives have since arrested a suspect on multiple drug-related charges.
According to the Albany Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 10:39 a.m. on December 13, 2025, to a residence in the 4000 block of Edgewater Drive NE after receiving a report of a possible overdose. When officers arrived, family members were performing CPR.
Officers immediately administered Narcan and took over lifesaving efforts until paramedics from the Albany Fire Department arrived. Despite continued medical intervention, the individual showed no signs of life, and resuscitation efforts were discontinued.
The victim was identified as Pavel P. Kokhanevich, 35, of Albany. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Following an investigation, detectives with the Linn Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Taskforce (LINE) arrested Austin Wade Floyd Nelson, 26, on December 14, 2025, at approximately 6:05 p.m. Nelson was taken into custody on charges of possession, manufacturing, and delivery of a controlled substance, fentanyl, as well as multiple outstanding warrants.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes legally appropriate.
