Cornelius, OR. — Detectives with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office partnered with local businesses on Friday to target organized retail theft during a coordinated enforcement mission in Cornelius.
The operation involved sheriff’s office detectives and uniformed patrol deputies working alongside asset protection staff at Coastal Farm & Ranch, Fred Meyer, and Walmart stores within the city. Law enforcement identified individuals suspected of committing retail theft and trespassing offenses during the mission.
A total of ten individuals were taken into custody. Charges included theft and trespassing, and one individual was arrested for possession of methamphetamine. Investigators recovered hundreds of dollars’ worth of stolen merchandise during the operation.
The enforcement effort was funded through a grant awarded to the Washington County District Attorney’s Office by the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission. Authorities said similar operations are planned as part of ongoing efforts to address organized retail theft and shoplifting across Washington County.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office stated it will continue collaborating with retail partners and other law enforcement agencies to deter theft and hold offenders accountable.
