Kennewick, WA. — The final outstanding suspect in the 2018 murder of 18-year-old Hunter Black is now in custody after a coordinated regional and federal operation.
On Wednesday, Kennewick Police Detectives, working with assistance from the FBI, located 26-year-old Kavonte Conley at a residence in Pasco. The Tri-City Regional SWAT Team and Pasco Police Department supported the operation, enabling investigators to safely take Conley into custody. He was booked into the Benton County Jail on a charge of Murder in the First Degree.
According to police, Black was killed on October 26, 2018, during a home-invasion robbery. Detectives have pursued the case for seven years, steadily identifying and arresting those involved. Two suspects were previously arrested in 2022 and 2023 and are serving prison sentences.
An arrest warrant for Conley was issued in 2022, but investigators say he actively evaded capture until he was located this week.
“The Kennewick Police Department takes major crimes against our community very seriously,” the agency said, noting that the lengthy investigation reflects the department’s determination to bring all responsible parties to justice. Detectives emphasized that they continue to work on other unsolved cases and encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
