Oregon –A Guatemalan national unlawfully residing in the United States made his first appearance in federal court today after being charged with assaulting federal officers during a traffic stop and subsequent pursuit.
Alvaro Carrillo, 32, is charged by criminal complaint with Assaulting a Federal Officer.
According to court documents, the incident began on November 11, 2025, when federal border patrol agents assisting Immigration and Customs Enforcement initiated a traffic stop on a silver Saturn sedan. After identifying themselves and directing Carrillo to exit the vehicle, officers say he refused to comply, shifted into drive, and fled.
During the pursuit, Carrillo allegedly intentionally struck a border patrol vehicle. After more than ten minutes, he reportedly lost control and collided with a concrete curb. Carrillo then exited the vehicle, assumed a fighting stance, and attempted to escape on foot. He ran approximately thirty yards before being apprehended.
Authorities say Carrillo resisted arrest before officers were able to take him into custody.
Carrillo appeared before a U.S. Magistrate Judge today and was ordered detained pending further proceedings.
Homeland Security Investigations is leading the investigation, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon is prosecuting the case.
Officials emphasize that a criminal complaint is only an allegation, and Carrillo is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
