Sweet Home, OR. — At 7:34 p.m. Saturday, Sweet Home Fire District responded to a structure fire in the 1900 block of 19th Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire and smoke pouring from the building.
Initial reports indicated it was unclear whether anyone was inside. Crews performed a rapid search and confirmed the structure was unoccupied before beginning fire suppression efforts.
Because the neighborhood lacks fire hydrants, the incident commander called a second alarm to bring additional personnel and equipment. Mutual aid partners responded, including a ladder truck and chief officer from the Lebanon Fire District and a water tender from the Brownsville Rural Fire Protection District.
In total, 16 firefighters, three command officers, and eight apparatus were deployed. Firefighters brought the blaze under control in about 30 minutes and remained on scene for roughly two more hours conducting overhaul operations.
No civilians or firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Sweet Home Fire District expressed gratitude to its mutual aid partners — Lebanon Fire District, Brownsville Rural Fire Protection District, Sweet Home Police Department, and Pacific Power — for their assistance.
