Newport, OR. — The Lincoln City Police Department executed a search warrant on October 29, 2025, at 1823 N Coast Highway, the Newport Inn, in connection with an ongoing investigation into the illegal manufacture of dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a potent hallucinogen classified as a Schedule I controlled substance.
Investigators determined that the room rented and occupied by Keith Kelly, 36, of Siletz, was being used as a clandestine laboratory for producing DMT. A search of the hotel room and Kelly’s vehicle uncovered equipment and precursor materials used in the drug’s manufacture, along with approximately five pounds of suspected DMT in various stages of processing.

Kelly was arrested and lodged in the Lincoln County Jail on charges of unlawful manufacture of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and felon in possession of a restricted weapon.
Police credited community tips with helping initiate the investigation. “The harmful effects of illicit drug trafficking on our communities expand beyond jurisdictional boundaries,” the department stated, thanking the concerned citizens who reported suspicious activity.
The Lincoln City Police Department’s Narcotics Detective led the operation with assistance from the Newport Police Department during the investigation and execution of the warrant.
