Salem, OR. – As the federal government shutdown continues to delay Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, Cherriots is launching temporary transportation support to help residents access essential food resources.
Starting November 1, 2025, riders traveling to and from food banks and food pantries will be able to ride free of charge. The initiative follows Cherriots’ previous efforts to support community members traveling to emergency warming and cooling centers and will remain in place for the duration of the shutdown.
“With many families facing uncertainty and added stress, we want to ensure that accessing food is never a barrier,” said Allan Pollock, General Manager of Cherriots. “Our community depends on us, and we are proud to step up for those who need support right now.”
Residents can visit Marion Polk Food Share online to locate nearby food resources, or call Cherriots Customer Service at 503-588-2877 for trip-planning assistance during business hours.
Cherriots also encouraged community members to show kindness and compassion toward those experiencing hardship, emphasizing that small gestures can have a big impact during challenging times.
