McMinnville, OR — The Yamhill County Board of Commissioners has officially adopted the Yamhill County Parks System Plan, a 20-year roadmap for enhancing and expanding the county’s 272 acres of parks and natural areas.
Developed with assistance from Design Workshop and extensive public input, the plan outlines phased strategies for creek and river recreation improvements, developing regional park destinations, and elevating visitor experiences. More than 600 residents participated in an online survey, with 75% rating the parks system “fair to excellent.” Additional community engagement included a public meeting in September 2024 and three virtual stakeholder discussions that November.
“This plan will guide the County’s efforts over the next 20 years to maintain, improve, and thoughtfully grow our network of parks and open spaces,” said Public Works Director Mark Lago.
Commissioners acknowledged challenges in funding the improvements but commended the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board for its dedication in pursuing solutions. The Board meets monthly at the County Public Works office in McMinnville.
