Washington County, OR. — Official Release: In early 2024, the Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue program (SAR) began planning to replace an old transport van with a new one to support the team’s growing needs. The $70,000 needed to replace the 25-year-old van was not in the budget, but it was needed to support this critical function of the Sheriff’s Office.
Funding to support larger purchases can be challenging, so SAR coordinators turned to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Foundation for help.
The Sheriff’s Office Foundation supports public safety throughout Washington County and the Sheriff’s Office. “Our mission is to provide funding for programs and/or services, which are not part of the regular budget.” The Sheriff’s Office Foundation is the only organization authorized to raise funds on behalf of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Foundation president Bonnie said, “The Sheriff’s Office Foundation was thrilled to support such an important cause, and believes wholeheartedly in the mission that Search and Rescue brings to Washington County, and the surrounding communities they serve.”
Sheriff Massey said, “I am extremely grateful for the resources that the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Foundation provides to ensure deputies are best able to keep community members and themselves safe. The Foundation funds programs that are unable to be supported through normal and limited funding mechanisms. Without the support and generosity of Foundation volunteers and donors, a handful of integral programs may not even exist.”
