Eugene, OR. – Official Release: Eugene Police Violent Crimes Unit has made an arrest in this case. On April 16, Eugene Police detectives arrested 18-year-old Levi Rosenthal Eva of Eugene for the murder of 24-year-old Bryon Jivan Fitzgerald, also of Eugene. The arrest stems from an incident Eugene Police responded to on March 3 near E. 23rd Avenue and Willamette Street. Eva was charged with Murder in the First Degree, Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Robbery in the First Degree, and Unlawful Use of Weapon. He has been lodged at the Lane County Jail.
Detectives also served a search warrant April 16 at a south Eugene residence in connection with this investigation. The investigation is on-going. At 3:11 p.m. on March 3, multiple Eugene Police units responded to a shooting in the 23rd Avenue and Willamette Street area. The shooting occurred between people who knew each other.
One person was taken to a local hospital. EPD Violent Crimes Unit is on scene conducting an investigation. There is no ongoing threat to the community.
