Who Sold A Governor’s Jet, Nixed a Personal Luxury, Saved Taxpayers Money, and Is Coming To The Dalles, Oregon? Governor Sarah Palin Of Course!
Yep! Governor Sarah Palin is coming to The Dalles, Oregon! The Wasco County Republicans are thrilled she has accepted to speak at our annual Beef & Burgundy Fundraiser Dinner with a focus of: United We Stand. Though a shocker throughout The Columbia Gorge as word has spread, knowing her character, it also doesn’t surprise me.
As down-to-earth and personal Sarah Palin is, she is just as strong of a leader who makes the right decisions for the people. She’s not like the other leaders who are in it for favors, self-interests, power, and backroom deals.
Most people know Governor Palin as the Vice Presidential nominee back in 2008 and how she electrified the crowd when she hit the stage, giving relatable, riveting, and genuine speeches throughout the campaign. Others will know her track record as the governor of Alaska and her 93% approval rating, but not enough people know the many why’s behind that, to name a few: selling the governor’s mansion jet and letting the personal chef go so the taxpayers weren’t financially burdened with her family’s luxury; jailing people from her own party because they were corrupt – Democrats were glad! THAT is being “for We The People” not “for The Power Machine”. Her transparency was true to character as well when she increased accessibility to the governor’s office and put the state’s checkbook online!
As her website states:
Palin is the author of The New York Times best-selling books Going Rogue: An American Life (November 2009), America by Heart (November 2010), and Good Tidings and Great Joy: Protecting the Heart of Christmas (November 2013). She was named to TIME magazine’s 2010 “100 Most Influential People in the World” list, the Smithsonian Institutes’s “100 Most Significant Americans of All Time” and Barbara Walter’s “Ten Most Fascinating People” list two years in a row.

Sarah Palin first made history on December 4, 2006, when she was sworn in as the first female and youngest governor of Alaska. In August 2008, Senator John McCain tapped Palin to serve as his vice-presidential running mate in his presidential campaign, making her the first woman to run on the Republican Party’s presidential ticket.
Palin has a long record of achievement and experience in public office. Prior to her election as governor, she served two terms on the Wasilla City Council and two terms as the mayor of Wasilla. During her tenure, she reduced property tax levels while increasing services and made Wasilla a business-friendly environment, drawing in new industry and making it the fastest growing city in Alaska. She was elected President of Alaska’s Conference of Mayors.
We need more leaders like this elected, especially in the state of Oregon. Unfortunately, with as hard as it’s been electing these kinds of leaders, we the people face it getting worse! Oregon is holding hearings to create Ranked Choice Voting, a new system where primaries are eliminated, there are multiple rounds of voting, and those with the most 2nd or 3rd votes can end up winning. You can rank the top 4 candidates in the order of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th…and these votes after your failed 1st choice will still count!! The system is no longer a “one person; one vote” situation. Up against 47 other candidates to run in a special election to replace Congressman Don Young, a proven leader like Governor Sarah Palin won the initial round of voting! However, under rank choice voting’s convoluted system, it resulted in losing the election. Alaskans were not aware of the new voting system they passed because it was guised as something it wasn’t.
Oregon cannot afford to make the same mistake!! Sarah has been sharing the dangers of rank choice voting with other states, but most of all, encouraging “We The People” to get involved in local level politics in some way or another. We don’t realize the power we hold in making a difference, but we must stand UNITED!
Sarah never stopped working for the people, she keeps serving however she can…so, where will you find the first female VP nominee, Governor Sarah Palin? Anywhere from enjoying her gorgeous backyard with family, to being a keynote speaker at a headlining event, to flying coach on a plane, to helping other leaders in their purpose, to visiting a place like a little town called The Dalles, Oregon. Because, that’s Sarah.
